Specialist Lenses
Giving you the ability to see clearly again at all distances.
Varifocal or Single Lenses.
From single vision corrective lenses for children and young adults designed to prevent or reduce eyestrain when on digital devices to Varifocal lenses for those experiencing deteriorating eyesight as they get older, we here to make sure you see clearly at all distances.
Single vision lenses are for those who have myopia, long-sightedness and/or astigmatism. At Thornton Optometry & Co we dispense Varifocals, Single Vision, Personalised Lenses, Photochromic Lenses, Polarised Lenses & Sun Protective Lenses, even a few basic ready readers.
We are registered as a Essilor Expert Ambassador branded practice. With full access to a wide range of single vision, bifocal, occupational and Varilux Varifocal lens types, of which there are hundreds of choices.
Only a few Practices, are equipped with a Visioffice X measuring device, that our dispensing opticians use to dispense the most bespoke of varifocal lens, the Varilux X 4D. If you have ever experienced the limiting swim effect on vision, and found it difficult to adjust to standard or budget varifocal lenses this may well be the lens for you.
Varifocal lenses are usually required by those over the age of 40; this is because of a normal loss of near focusing ability. The crystalline lens in our eye loses elasticity and gets stiffer as we grow older, resulting in our close sight deteriorating. Known as presbyopia, it is a refractive error, and you may start to notice it in your early 40s. Varifocal lenses are often used as a solution for presbyopia, giving you the ability to see clearly again at all distances.
Photochromic & Polarised Lenses
Photochromic or “Transitions Light” intelligent lenses automatically adapt to changing light conditions for optimal visual comfort and style. Additionally they help protect against harmful UV and Blue-Violet light indoors and outdoors. Transitions is the number one photochromic brand recommended by eye care professionals. Whether you want conventional everyday lenses, driving specific lenses or a stylish fashion pair of lenses, we have a solution for all.
Our sun tints, polarised technology and mirrors safeguard your eyes against harmful UVA and UVB rays, bright sunlight and glare, ensuring your eye health and vision is well protected every time you put on your sunglasses. Our extensive range will let you create the ultimate sun lens with your prescription so you can match them with any frame or style.
