Contact Lenses

Recent developments in the technology used to create Contact Lenses mean that lenses are now widely considered an additional convenient and comfortable alternative to glasses.

Technological advances now mean a wide range of Contact Lens options are available to suit the needs of the vast majority of patients. They are a comfortable, convenient and affordable option. As an independent practice, we use lenses from many companies, allowing us the opportunity to fit both the straight forward and the complex prescriptions.

Particularly ideal for individuals who play a lot of sport or have a very active lifestyle, many people find that contact lenses provide a much wider field of view, since there are no frames to get in the way of your peripheral vision. Additionally, they won’t fall off your nose or slide out of place, and don’t get fogged up in hot or humid environments.

Contact lenses are available in a variety of options, from ‘dailies’ which are disposed of after every use, to fortnightly and monthly options which can be cleaned and reused at the end of every day, up to their maximum period.

Many are made from a material called silicon hydrogel, which is not only flexible and comfortable, but also allows oxygen through to the surface of your eye to prevent it becoming sore and itchy

We supply soft contact lenses, at internet level prices,  to members of our eyeplan scheme. This covers contact lens fitting with 6 monthly aftercare examinations and can also include contact lenses themselves if worn very frequently, so we can give your eyes the best care possible.

Our main contact lens suppliers we use:

Soft lenses – Johnson & Johnson, Alcon and Coopervision brands

Misight – Myopia Control lenses for children – to slow the progression of short sightedness

Gas Permeable Lenses – Menicon (formerly David Thomas)

In most cases there is a type of contact lens for everyone, regardless of your prescription and whether you have been told you are unsuitable to wear them in the past.

Furthermore, one of our optometrists – Andrew Thornton – is a member of the British Contact Lens Association. This means that not only is he able to provide you with the most up-to-date information regarding the suitable types of lenses for you but can also identify and recommend the latest suggestions or products that are relevant to you and your situation. Whether you’re interested in starting to wear contact lenses, or want to know more about the latest research and developments in contact lens products, the BCLA website provides up-to-date independent guidance, you will find everything you need to know about contact lens wear and care, including types of lenses, how to avoid infections, do’s and don’t’s of contact lens wear, and contact lenses and sport.
